Safety Comes Before Relationship Work

TruAlign cannot determine whether you are safe. If there is immediate danger, contact emergency services, a crisis hotline, or trusted local support. This page is educational and is not legal, medical, psychological, or emergency advice.

Relationship Distress Versus Safety Concerns

Ordinary conflict

Disagreements, hurt feelings, or miscommunication can be painful without involving control, threats, or fear. Repair may be possible when both people can speak freely and pause safely.

Emotional harm

Insults, humiliation, intimidation, chronic blame, or repeated disregard can affect wellbeing. Support from a trusted person or professional can help you think clearly about next steps.

Coercive control

Control over movement, money, communication, technology, sexuality, family contact, or daily choices can increase danger. Joint relationship exercises may be unsafe in this context.

Immediate danger

Threats, violence, weapons, forced sex, stalking, suicidal threats used to control you, or fear of leaving may require emergency services or local crisis support.

Safer-Device Guidance

  • Use a device the other person cannot access when possible.
  • Avoid using shared passwords or accounts for safety planning.
  • Remember that browser history, downloads, autofill, and synced tabs may be visible.
  • Review location sharing through phones, apps, vehicles, tags, and family plans.
  • Phone-plan owners may see call, text, or device activity.
  • Synced accounts can copy searches, messages, photos, or documents to another device.
  • Smart-home devices, cameras, speakers, routers, and doorbells may record activity.
  • Financial accounts, shared cards, and payment apps may reveal travel, shelter, or legal-resource searches.

Assessment Warning

  • TruAlign assessments measure perceptions and relationship patterns as reported by the user.
  • Assessments do not diagnose abuse, prove legal facts, or determine whether you are safe.
  • Joint exercises may be unsafe when coercion, surveillance, threats, or violence are present.
  • Do not confront a controlling partner based only on an assessment result.
  • Do not share results if sharing could increase danger, retaliation, monitoring, or pressure.
